About Us
HCSS is a New Zealand based private family Swim School with 40 years experience located on the North Shore of Auckland City.
​Run by mother-daughter duo Helen and Christina.
We encourage all swimmers 3+ to attend classes twice a week as our experience has proved consistency is key when learning a skill such as swimming. This is how we get rapid acceleration in improvement in water confidence, water safety and technique.
As a family of ex-competitive swimmers, we are absolutely passionate about swimming, teaching, coaching and the water.
Our classes are run in private learn to swim environments. This is at both our outdoor pool and indoor pool. In May 2021 we started renting back Helen's original pool in Vandeleur Ave which we use as our indoor pool! In Summer we teach in both our indoor and outdoor pools which are heated at 32 degrees Celsius. In Winter we use our indoor pool which we heat to 33.5 degrees.
Our beginner courses start from ages 3+. Our swimmers can start our beginner courses once they are old enough to be happy in the water with the teacher instead of Mum and Dad. Any swimmers still needing their parents in the water can join our baby/toddler classes.
Once swimmers are strong in Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke they can move up to out 20 meter outdoor pool to further develop their swimming skills and ability.
We also run HC Swim Team, an all year round mini squad for young swimmers who not only want to keep a focus on their technique, but also want to use swimming as a fitness programme.
Our skilled team members teach our swimmers through play, fun and a positive environment whilst keeping a strong focus on technique.
As there is such a high demand for classes and we run at full capacity unfortunately we cannot guarantee make ups as we would have to overfill classes to fit them in! We do however try and help where we can and would always give make ups for situations where the swimmers would be out for a long period of time outside of their control e.g. broken arm, Covid Alert Level Lockdown etc.
